Concept players present Evita

Music by Andrew Lloyd-Webber

Lyrics by Tim Rice

Evocative, powerful, iconic Evita has it all and this ground breaking company are professional whatever they stage, their every move is perfection. The Gods were with them as a professional run was about to open in Cardiff and they were granted one of the prized rare licences this year and Abergavenny Borough Theatre was indeed very fortunate to be the only performance venue for Concept Players this time!

Given a new visionary approach by their production team led by Director Ruairidh MacLeod-Lyon we were taken through the onward and upward life of Eva Duarte. A favourite show of mine it builds and weaves along the journey of Eva and is just such a test for any company. I was confident that Concept could make it come alive on stage.

Inspirational performance by the outstanding Rhiannon Rose who became Eva, her every move and facial expressions and how she sang and danced her way through so well, to enchant us all as Eva did, she gave a scintillating performance. Also an inspired pairing of Shane Goodsir who was an exceptional Colonel Juan Peron, he gave the romantic frisson so essential for it to be a believable intense relationship. Great crowd scenes, a fabulous ensemble moving as a sea, reacting and dancing. An inspired Che, The Everyman, from Tim Reynolds; how that original role with the beret tires and this was a fresh and new approach and an actor who gave us an exciting performance throughout, his riveting voice reached the roof of the theatre. I liked the comedy brought by Richard Thomas to Magaldi, well done, and Jennifer Brock gave a us a suitably dejected Mistress.

Well thought out costumes and set coordination. Congratulations to all and MD Richard Jackson and band for the music, sympathetic to the voices throughout.

Concept is the toast of the town in Abergavenny and area, we cannot wait for your next production.
